Pick a Side

Quick post. You have to pick one: Phillies or Mets. I like this rivalry. It's nowhere near Yanks/Red Sox or Cards/Cubs, but it's better than Giants/Dodgers. I'll help you with your decision. Here is a 2007 picture of the Phillies center fielder Shane Victorino.

Granted it's a Chuck Liddell style mohawk but kind of cool. Here's the Mets' leadoff man Jose Reyes:

Defend this, Mets fans. I'm sorry to kick you while you're down, but c'mon.

A) We're not down, 6 in a row is actually pretty darn good.
B) There's no defending the posing Reyes did...but it was in GQ...that doesn't make it any better.

However, there is footage out there of Mike Piazza rocking out to some decent hair metal (oxymoron?) during BP on the web somewhere, that has to count for something.

And for what it's worth, yes I'm a Mets fan. But let's also look at the bands we get from each area (granted I'm totally biased).
From PA, we get The Loved Ones
From NYC (excluding Jersey bands), we get H20, Sick of It All, Choking Victim/Leftover Crack/Crack Rocksteady Seven, The Ramones, and so on and so on.

And George Carlin was a Mets fan, so that counts for something also!

Of all the times this season to say "kick us while we're down", you picked the worst one.

I can't defend the picture, other than it's Jose being Jose. He's funny, and always rather flamboyant.

I'm just glad you didn't put up the picture of him with David Wright dressed just as ridiculously.

To be quite honest, I haven't paid much attention to the Mets, especially lately. All I know is that they are on their second manager this the season.

They should be doing well. They have the highest payroll in the NL.

As the Rays, Twins, As, Brewers, and others have shown us, $=/=W.

Sure but money (spent well) increases expectations and should increase the probability of winning. Otherwise, why would teams like the Red Sox, Mets, and Yankees spend so much?

I mean, it's not like they spend just a little more then other clubs. They spend more on one player than other clubs' entire payroll. They have to think it will get results.

So I think pointing to small market teams as an excuse for not winning is cheap (no pun intended).

Sorry, I didn't mean for it to come across as an excuse.
As far as the Mets underperforming in the first part of the season, I believe this stems from their collapse at the end of last year. The players who were doing well while they stunk were Santana and Church- players who were not on the team last year. Willie, who I love as a manager and I hope he gets another manager position, never kicked the team in the ass the right way. The specter of the Greatest Collapse Ever loomed on this team, in my opinion.

Now that there's a scapegoat and he's out of the house, there's less stress around the team, and it shows.

The Mets are Satan.

Aaron Heilman's warm up song used to be London Calling. That's punk.

I forget what it is now, but maybe he should go back, because he's sucked this season (especially early in the season).
